The Viking View- Sweating the Details

Viking Difference: Quality Control

Viking‘s industry-leading quality control plays a critical role in our ability to deliver immaculate turnkey sportfishing and motor yachts, such as this Viking 80 Convertible. Viking QC is another component of The Viking Difference, a group of key company characteristics (unique to Viking) that we’re highlighting in commemoration of our 55th anniversary.
Dedicated personnel thoroughly inspect each yacht in all areas – and during every stage of the build. Above: Quality Control Specialist Chuck Richmond examines the hydraulic steering pump fittings in one of our convertibles.
Attention to detail ensures greater reliability, safety and customer satisfaction. Viking holds an inherent quality-control advantage because we manufacture 90 percent of every yacht in-house. And that 90 percent includes all interior cabinetry. Above: Cabinetmaker Adam Triano checks the gaps around the doors in the galley of a 62, ensuring consistent spacing. Below: Quality Control Foreman Rodger Leppin looks for any imperfections along the vanity backsplash and wallpaper in an 80‘s master stateroom head.
In Viking‘s customized quality-control shop, we use advanced equipment to inspect, test and measure the propellers, struts, couplings, and other running gear appendages that help our boats deliver high performance. Seakeeper gyro stabilizers are also inspected and readied for installation here. Above: Quality Control Engineer Yasser Hassan uses a computer-aided measuring device to record diameter, pitch, tracking and other detailed prop measurements. An 80 Convertible‘s 285-pound five-blade Nibral VEEM wheel is shown here.
Yasser, who has been a Viking QC engineer for nearly 20 years, checks the hydraulic fluid pressure of a Seakeeper SK 26 headed for a 68 Convertible.
Our new V Series center consoles are built with the same high levels of workmanship, fit-and-finish and quality as our Viking yachts. Jim McLaughlin, the Production Manager of Viking Mullica where the V Series boats are built, performs a quality control check of the Valhalla emblem on a V-37.
