The Viking View – Higher Level

Viking 68

Viking builds 35 different models in 14 sizes from 38 to 93 feet. Such a diverse fleet not only allows us to better satisfy owners’ needs, it indicates a higher level of commitment and expertise compared to the competition. Our five convertibles from 62 to 92 feet are offered in three or four different models depending on size, including Open, Enclosed Bridge (EB) and Enclosed Bridge with tuna tower. We’ll show you all three versions of the 68 C here, beginning with the open bridge El Diablo above, a New England-based Viking and a regular visitor to the Northeast Canyons for bigeye tuna.
This Snow White 68 EB will be fishing and cruising in different weather conditions all around the world, so the climate-controlled enclosed bridge was a necessity.
Easily accessible from the salon via a starboard-side staircase, the enclosed bridge features a forward control station as well as an additional living space that serves as a luxurious second salon, complete with premium carpeting, a raised L-shaped lounge, a walnut cocktail table and a 24-inch HD TV. A weatherproof and lockable fiberglass door brings you to the enclosed bridge’s aft deck and its pod-style helm, which provides the captain with a convenient docking and fishing station.
Here’s another Snow White 68 EB. Share E is headed to the Gulf of Mexico to chase billfish, which calls for a custom designed and fabricated Palm Beach Towers (PBT) tuna tower. Above, a PBT crew in New Gretna maneuvers the state-of-the-art anodized aluminum structure into position using a 35-ton crane with 100-foot boom. Besides the tower, Share E also features a Furuno 360-degree real-time sonar, dedicated pumps in the lazarette for tuna tubes and additional on-deck live well capacity.
Our owners have choices when it comes to propulsion as well. A pair of 1925MHP C32A Caterpillars (left) provides the punch for Share E, while El Diablo and the other 68 EB are powered with 1945MHP MTU 12V2000 ML96s. The structural engineroom bulkheads are constructed with resin-infused cored composite for maximum weight savings and strength.
More than 90 percent of every Viking yacht is manufactured in-house, which gives us greater quality control. Above: Shipwrights use an overhead electric hoist to lower the galley floor over the crew stateroom on a 68. The intuitive layout heightens owner privacy, providing a dedicated staircase off the companionway (below left) for the crew that leads directly to their quarters and the engineroom.
We leave you with this beautiful shot of the Viking 68 Finish Line, a Shimmering Blue Open model with a custom teak cockpit. For more information about the 68 or any of our industry-leading yachts, please contact Oyster Harbors Marine.
