We believe your Viking should be personalized explicitly for your cruising and fishing lifestyle. The diversity of our fleet enables us to give every owner their dream boat. Take our 80 Convertible, for instance. We offer this five-stateroom luxury sportfishing yacht in three different configurations: open bridge, enclosed bridge and enclosed bridge with a sky bridge (shown above). At our New Gretna, New Jersey, headquarters, we’re in the midst of building all three types. Each has its own special benefits, which we explore in this Viking View.

The sky bridge shares many of the design characteristics of our open flybridge convertibles, such as a sleek low-profile console with optional raised teak helm pod, flanking radio boxes with split lids, a large recessed and protected area for multi-function displays, engine and steering controls and electronics controllers. Also, the hardtop houses an available power-actuated drop-down electronics box as well as a teaser reel box.

Our sky bridge design combines all the visibility benefits of an elevated control station with the weather protection and comfort of a Viking enclosed bridge. This 80 SB, scheduled for delivery to its owner this summer, will receive a custom yellow hull color, a satin walnut interior and her exterior will be accented with custom faux teak toerails, transom and aft salon bulkhead.

The 80 and 92 Convertibles have proven that large Viking sportfishing yachts can consistently win on the tournament circuit, with tremendous speed, range and maneuverability. The next 80 Convertible (with an open bridge), shown below on Line 1 in our manufacturing plant, will serve as the Viking demo boat, competing in major tournaments this summer such as the White Marlin Open and the MidAtlantic. With twin (2635MHP) MTU 16V2000 M96L diesels and Furuno’s CSH8LMK2 sonar (the system’s centerline sonar tube installation is shown below), she’s a performance powerhouse armed with cutting-edge fish-finding technology and Viking engineering.

This 80 Enclosed Bridge is a showpiece of Viking‘s vertical integration, with a custom tuna tower from the Viking subsidiary Palm Beach Towers and a personalized (there’s that word again) package of electronics, communication, security and entertainment components and systems from Atlantic Marine Electronics, another member of the Viking family.

The enclosed bridge features a fully-equipped forward control station and a luxurious and comfortable second salon with easy access to the main deck. The aft deck is designed with a convenient starboard docking station, and the port-side molded fiberglass seat (with storage) is a great place for guests to take in the fishing action or just enjoy the view. The bridge overhang shades the area and still allows for a tuna tower ladder.
