The Evolution of the Viking 48C
Some new boats come out of the factory launched with trumpet flourishes and a big “ta-daa!”
The totally new Viking 48 is a bit different. Versions of this fishing machine have been around since 1985, when the original Viking 48 was launched. In 2002, a newer, softer, curvier model 48 was unveiled. Because of Viking’s dedication to “build a better boat every day,” both of these earlier iterations were popular best-sellers.
Now comes the Viking 48 Convertible, the latest evolution of this tradition of excellence, offering the best features of the past models, and an entirely new profile.
Even when resting at the dock, one can see the difference. The black metallic wraparound windshield mask, along with the other window lines and the flying bridge, screams out that this is one bad-ass machine. The hull is beamier with more interior room and a wider cockpit, and the raked entry and forward chine are designed to provide steadier and drier rides in heavy seas.
The interior space is typical Viking quality: hand-joined teak or walnut trimwork, an L-shaped lounge and cocktail table in the wide salon, a fully appointed peninsula galley with undercounter refrigerator and ample storage, and three comfortable staterooms and two heads. There’s even a laundry center and central vac system.
The Viking 48 is perfect for cruising or serious fishing. The Viking 48 has traditionally been designed for fishing. The 124 square-foot cockpit features flush rod holders, a transom fish box, and recessed fish and stowage wells in the nonslip fiberglass sole. A transom door with lift gate, a drink box, a bait cooler and tackle stowage are standard.
On the flying bridge, the center console helm and flanking lounges are tournament proven and will make the Viking 48 Convertible the envy of anything in its class with its custom navigation and communication systems provided by our subsidiary Atlantic Marine Electronics.
The 48 is powered with MAN diesels. The 48 Convertible will cruise at 30 knots with a top end of 38 knots. Range depends on cruise speed, load, sea and other environmental factors. Engine room access is through the observation mezzanine.
The new Viking 48 Convertible, just like its predecessors, is a true blue-water champion in spirit, performance, accommodations and evolutionary prowess in the herald Viking tradition.
