Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Marine Carpenter to join our team at Oyster Harbors Marine. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in marine carpentry, excellent woodworking skills, and a commitment to precision and quality. Experience with CAD (Computer-Aided Design) and CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing) is a significant plus. As a Marine Carpenter, you will be responsible for constructing, repairing, and restoring wooden parts and structures on various types of marine vessels.

Key Responsibilities

  • Construct, repair, and restore wooden components and structures on boats, including decks, cabins, and hulls.
  • Perform custom woodworking projects according to client specifications and design plans.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, and woodworking machinery to cut, shape, and assemble wooden parts.
  • Inspect and assess the condition of wooden components to determine necessary repairs or replacements.
  • Apply finishes, sealants, and coatings to protect and enhance wooden surfaces.
  • Collaborate with other marine technicians and team members to ensure seamless integration of carpentry work with other repairs and maintenance.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring tools and materials are properly stored.
  • Adhere to safety standards and guidelines to prevent accidents and injuries.
  • Communicate effectively with clients and team members regarding project progress and any issues encountered.
  • Stay up-to-date with advancements in marine carpentry techniques and materials.
  • Utilize CAD/CAM software to design and plan carpentry projects (experience is a plus).

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or certifications in carpentry preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a marine carpenter or equivalent woodworking experience.
  • Strong knowledge of woodworking techniques, tools, and materials used in marine carpentry.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and design plans.
  • Excellent craftsmanship and attention to detail.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects and work in various weather conditions.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Experience with CAD is a significant plus.
  • Basic tools need to be owned by the carpenter; specialty tools will be supplied.
